Press Release
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary Patrick McDonnell, DEP Environmental Justice Director Allison Acevedo, Department of Transportation Secretary Yassmin Gramian, Department of Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding, and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn will announce Pennsylvania Climate Action Plan 2021, emphasizing the need for statewide action now by partners in all sectors: government, industry, business, and community organizations.
Pennsylvania Climate Action Plan 2021 identifies 18 actions to start now to reduce greenhouse emissions 26 percent by 2025 and 80 percent by 2050 and help slow future climate change. It lays out action pathways that a range of partners can take to adapt to climate change impacts that are already happening, affecting infrastructure, farms, ecosystems, and the health and safety of all Pennsylvanians, especially those who live in Environmental Justice areas.
As a result of increasing greenhouse gas emissions from human activity, Pennsylvania’s average temperature has risen nearly 2 degrees Fahrenheit since 1900, bringing more heatwaves and increased intensity of extreme weather events, including heavy rainfall and flooding. Pennsylvania is on course to climb another 5.9 degrees by the middle decades of this century.
