“Our Vision:
At Dignity Health Global Education (DHGE), we work towards a healthier future for all driven by innovation and powered by humanity — where healthcare professionals are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and education they need to thrive in their roles, impact the organizations they’re in, and make a difference to the lives of others.”(Dignity Health Global Education). The DHGE is an organization with one goal and that goal is to create a more equitable landscape for the healthcare industry. In a recent announcement they shared with the world the creation of a new scholarship. One of their representatives, Geoffrey M. Roche shared with us more about the program “We recently shared this exciting announcement about the Equity Impact Scholarship, which is entirely focused on developing a more equitable healthcare workforce…This includes our online, accredited RN to BSN” said Geoffrey via a message.
The question is, why does this matter and how is this creating a positive impact? Their new scholarship shares the following message “Imagine a world where only 11% of the RN workforce is male, only 5% of physicians identify as Black, and only 27% of board members at the top 100 U.S. hospitals are women. This is the healthcare workforce we know today. We believe we can do better. That’s why we’ve partnered with CommonSpirit Health to promote inclusion, diversity, and equity in healthcare through a $3 million scholarship program geared towards healthcare professionals who are looking to develop their skills, knowledge, and expertise through skills-based education and training. This scholarship offers experiential learning by providing access to top-tier institutions and relevant educational programs that will help professionals in health solve the diverse challenges they’re facing.”(Dignity Health Global Education). As we can see, there is a need for more educational opportunities in the form of scholarships. Inequities have been a consisten topic of conversation for a while but lately have become the main focus of conversation in a government and social setting. In United States and around the world, minority groups have been pursuing to have their voices being heard and slowly it seems like that is happening. When we take the cultural and life experiences of other people into consideration we are able to understand why scholarships like these can have such a great impact in our society. The COVID-19 Pandemic has given us the ability to see how this is a real problem that must be addressed.
