Taylor Swift’s revamp of her beloved 1989 single “Wildest Dreams” has topped this week’s new music poll.
Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (Sept. 17) on Billboard, choosing the 31-year-old pop superstar’s surprise release of “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)” as their favorite new music release of the past week.
The unexpected “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)” re-recording brought in 69% of the vote, beating out new music by Lil Nas X (Montero), Jonas Brothers (“Who’s in Your Head”), Kehlani (“Altar”), Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett (Love For Sale), and others.
Swift dropped the reworking of “Wildest Dreams” after saying she was inspired by Swifties getting the song trending on TikTok. Originally written by Taylor with Shellback and Max Martin, the updated version features production credits that list the singer along with Shellback and Christopher Rowe.
Swift will release the 30-track Red (Taylor’s Version) on Nov. 19, along with its vinyl version. Red is the second project in the singer’s efforts to re-record her back catalog in a bid to reclaim ownership of her first five albums.
Placing second on the past week’s tally with nearly 20% of the vote was Lil Nas X’s debut album, Montero. In the weeks leading up to its release, the 22-year-old Grammy Award winner cleverly promoted the highly anticipated project by teasing photos of himself with a prosthetic baby bump, announcing that he’d soon be delivering Montero to his fans.
