Although the anticipated chart showdown with Kanye West that fans were salivating for didn’t happen, Drake still made sure he gave them something to talk about on Friday (Sept. 3) via some of the lyrics on his anticipated Certified Lover Boy album.
After Drizzy and ‘Ye spent the lead-up to their respective album drops taking subtle shots at each other — which included West briefly leaking Drake’s home address — the Six God appeared to get the last word on the chilled-out CLB track “7am on Bridle Path.”
“Told you I’m aimin’ straight for the head/ Now they ‘Amen’ and ‘please’/ I can give a f— about who designing your sneakers and tees/ Had somebody put you on a guilt and you play with my seed,” Drake raps in a fast-paced flow. “That’s why you buyin’ into the hype that the press feedin’ ya/ You know the fourth level of jealousy is called ‘media’/ Isn’t that an ironic revelation?/ Get that address to your driver, make it your destination/ Instead of just a post out of desperation.”
After ‘Ye sneaked Drake’s home numbers out in the run-up to last week’s Donda release, fans think the lyrical revenge came on “Bridle” in one of Drizzy’s signature lyrically subtle snaps. Though Drake doesn’t call Kanye out by name, the reference to giving the address to “your driver” instead of making a post out of “desperation” has been widely interpreted as a nod to the A-list bro code violation.
Drake got a first shot in two weeks ago when he popped into Trippie Redd’s track “Betrayal,” on which he appeared to take a shot at 44-year-old West. “All these fools I’m beefin’ that I barely know/ 45, 44 (burned out), let it go/ Ye ain’t changin’ s— for me, it’s set in stone,” Drake raps on the song, which appears on the expanded version of Redd’s latest album, Trip at Knight.
