Demi Lovato has some news for you: it’s rude to call extraterrestrials “aliens.” In a new interview with Pedestrian, the Unidentified with Demi Lovato star says “ETs” is the preferred term. “I really think that if there was anything out there that would want to do that to us, it would have happened by now,” they said in a chat promoting the four-episode series available now on Peacock.
“But I think that we have to stop calling them aliens because aliens is a derogatory term for anything. That’s why I like to call them ETs! So yeah, that’s a little tidbit. A little information that I learned.” The series, which debuted last month, finds Lovato and her sister, Dallas, teaming up with the singer’s best friend, Matthew Scott Montgomery, searching for signs of extraterrestrial life and speaking to experts about whether we’re alone in the universe.
In the trailer for the show, the singer recalled a “crazy experience” they had in Joshua Tree in which a bright light moved in “weird ways that a plane wouldn’t move.” The goal in launching the show was to find out what really happened that night.
“I’ve also been a huge UFO fan for as long as I can remember, so this show sees my two passions collide. How did this come to be?” they told Pedestrian about the show that seeks to unpack common misperceptions about ETs and extend an olive branch to the universe. “Well, I have been a believer my whole life too. And I just thought, you know, I’m in a position in my career right now where I’m dipping my toes into a lot of different waters. And this was just kind of a natural next step. I wanted to film everything that goes down when I go and search for these UFOs so that my fans can come along for the ride.”
