For the first time since 2019 the “Got the Nerve Triathlon” will be hosted in Mt. Gretna. This triathlon is being hosted by Utopia Events which took on the race back in 2020 in order to increase awareness and participation. The I Am Able Foundation sponsors the event with proceeds going towards equipment to assist people with mobility issues. The race has previously seen over 600 athletes as well as 600 spectators and volunteers in prior years. While this year is not expected to have as big of a turn out there are already 300 registered racers eager to participate in this event.
The age range for registered athletes varies from 12 – 76 years of age, and the triathlon consists of a sprint, bike, and swim event. Various groups of individuals will be participating simultaneously such as blind athletes among others. The event is scheduled for May 21st and is to run from 7:45am – 10:30am and is free to spectators.
A member of Utopia Events participated in the South Londonderry Board of Supervisors meeting on April 12th to modify the bike course to minimize street crossing and left turns for safety of the athletes. There will be flaggers at every intersection to continuously give bikers the right of way so they will not have to be stopped against traffic.
