HARRISBURG – Funding to assist Lycoming County with a community planning project was awarded recently, according to state Rep. Jeff Wheeland (R-Lycoming). The grant for the project was issued by the Municipal Assistance Program (MAP) and approved by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).
“The communities in Lycoming County will continue to benefit from economic development and revitalization, which is what these funds will ultimately promote. I am happy that MAP and DCED selected them as a recipient.” said Wheeland.
Lycoming County received $50,000 from MAP to update their zoning, subdivision and land development ordinances. The Lycoming County planning department will work with a professional planning consultant to update county ordinances. The changes would create new, appropriate areas of economic opportunity in the county and incorporate spaces that were once under-utilized.
MAP is a program that assists local governments in funding municipal projects related to community planning and shared services. DCED approved $235,500 in total, for nine municipal projects in eight counties throughout the state.
