Ken Griffin, the billionaire head of the Citadel capital company, litigated with the IRS and Treasury Department today, declaring they had an “unauthorized uncovering of Griffin’s secret tax information.” In 2021, ProPublica began putting out The Secret IRS Files, a sequence of articles addressing the tax evasion strategies of the super-rich. The show is founded on Internal Revenue Service statistics on thousands of affluent Americans from over 15 years or more. Articles have described how people like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are able to pay significantly less in taxes than the average American, avoiding paying any income tax at all for prolonged periods of time. The Republican legislators in Congress have indicated their distrust of the IRS due to claims of data infringement and have expressed dedication to launching investigations once they have reclaimed the majority in the House come 2023. Griffin is among the leading Republican contributors in the US. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration and the Justice Department have declared that they are looking into the declarations concerning tax documents. The IRS did not have an immediate reaction to the legal action that was taken. ProPublica published two articles in the same year exposing Griffin’s yearly revenue and the taxes that he paid. The claim, filed in a federal court in Southern Florida, claimed that the IRS “intentionally exposed this information, or at the very least, was careless or very carelessly careless”.
