Josh Jenkins hits No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Songwriters chart (dated Sept. 25), leading for the first time thanks to a pair of songwriting credits on the latest Hot Country Songs chart.
Walker Hayes’ “Fancy Like” — which Jenkins co-wrote with Hayes, Cameron Bartolini and Shane Stevens — rules Hot Country Songs for a 10th week, with 21.9 million radio audience impressions (up 36%), 20.5 million on-demand U.S. streams, (up 20%) and 30,800 downloads sold (up 4%) in the week ending Sept. 16, according to MRC Data. Contributing to the song’s gains this week is a new remix featuring Kesha that was released Sept. 10 and its synch in an Applebee’s commercial that premiered Aug. 23.
Further fueling Jenkins’ rule, Jordan Davis’ “Buy Dirt,” featuring Luke Bryan, hits the Hot Country Songs top 10, climbing from No. 13 to No. 8. Jenkins co-wrote the track with Davis, Jacob Davis (Jordan’s brother) and his own brother, Matt Jenkins.
“This has truly been an unbelievable ride,” Jenkins tells Billboard. “I’m so honored to share it with so many people I love.”
Jenkins is a newcomer to Billboard’s charts. “Fancy Like” and “Buy Dirt” are his first tracks to reach Hot Country songs, as well as the Billboard Hot 100, where they hit new highs at Nos. 5 and 51, respectively.
On the Country Producers chart, Dann Huff tallies a 45th week at No. 1, thanks to four production credits on Hot Country Songs: Thomas Rhett’s “Country Again” (No. 7), Kane Brown’s “One Mississippi” (No. 26), Lady A’s “Like a Lady” (No. 29) and Russell Dickerson’s “Home Sweet” (No. 39).
Dating to the launch of Billboard’s songwriter and producer charts in June 2019, only Joey Moi has spent more time atop Country Producers, with 49 weeks to-date.
The weekly Country Songwriters and Country Producers charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter and producer, respectively, for each attributed song that appears on the Hot Country Songs chart. As with Billboard’s yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally (and the dividing of points will lead to occasional ties on rankings).
