Kanye West rules Billboard’s Hot 100 Songwriters and Hot 100 Producers charts for the first time, thanks to 23 credits on the latest Billboard Hot 100 (dated Sept. 11), all via his new LP Donda. West is credited as both a co-songwriter and co-producer on every track on the set.
Donda debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 309,000 equivalent album units, according to MRC Data, marking the biggest week of 2021. West earns his 10th No. 1, becoming just the seventh artist to reach the milestone.
“Hurricane” leads West’s 23 Hot 100 entries (all debuts) at No. 6, followed in the top 20 by “Jail” (No. 10), “Off the Grid” (No. 11), “Ok Ok” (No. 12), “Junya” (No. 16), “Moon” (No. 17) and “Praise God” (No. 20).
Dating to the launch of Billboard’s songwriter and producer charts in June 2019, West is the 12th act to lead both Hot 100 rankings simultaneously. Only three others have led the surveys in the same week this year: Dan Nigro (six weeks), Finneas and J. Cole (one each).
Here’s a rundown of all 12 talents that have doubled up at No. 1 since the charts began: Nigro (six weeks), Finneas (five), David Stewart (four), Louis Bell (three), J. Cole, Metro Boomin, OZ, Ricky Reed, Taylor Swift, TBHits, The Weeknd and West (one each).
West has an impressive history on Billboard’s charts as a recording artist, writer and producer. Before he first appeared on the Hot 100 as a recording artist in November 2003 (with the No. 15-peaking “Through the Wire”), he posted eight production and seven writing credits, starting with Jay-Z’s “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” which reached No. 8 in October 2001.
West has logged four No. 1s on the Hot 100 as a writer and producer: Ludacris’ “Stand Up,” featuring Shawnna (one week at No. 1, December 2003); Twista’s “Slow Jamz,” featuring West and Jamie Foxx (one, February 2004); and his own “Gold Digger,” featuring Foxx (10, beginning in September 2005), and “Stronger” (one, September 2007).
West boasts four Hot 100 No. 1s as a recording artist: “Slow Jamz,” “Gold Digger,” “Stronger” and Katy Perry’s “E.T.,” on which he’s featured (five, beginning in April 2011).
Donda collaborators also land on the latest Hot 100 Songwriters and Hot 100 Producers charts. On the former, Ojivolta and Raul Cubina debut (in a tie) at No. 2, followed by Jahmal Gwin (No. 7), Mike Dean (No. 11), Finatik & Zac (No. 12), 88-Keys (No. 24) and Josh Jenkins (No. 25). On the latter list, Ojivolta bows at No. 3, joined by BoogzDaBeast (No. 5), Dean (No. 6) and FnZ (No. 24).
The weekly Hot 100 Songwriters and Hot 100 Producers charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter and producer, respectively, for each attributed song that appears on the Hot 100. Genre-based songwriter and producer charts follow the same methodology based on corresponding “Hot”-named genre charts. As with Billboard’s yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally (and the dividing of points will lead to occasional ties on rankings).
