The President and First Lady are deeply saddened by the devastating shooting in Enoch City, Utah, which has taken the lives of five kids and several adults. Too many Americans have been impacted by gun violence, which continues to be the largest killer of children in the United States. They are mourning with the community impacted by this tragedy. It has been less than one month since we commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre, and an additional mass shooting has now taken the lives of five children in Enoch City. President Biden is leading the charge to reduce gun violence across the country by implementing a range of executive measures, such as encouraging safe storage of firearms and working to prevent instances of suicide. In the summer of 2021, President Joe Biden approved the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, representing the first noteworthy gun control law to be enacted in almost three decades. This law assists towns in employing fresh approaches to lower gun violence, including extreme risk protection orders that can briefly take away firearms from individuals established to be a danger to themselves or to other people. The President is of the opinion that we must do more to make our homes, schools and neighborhoods secure, such as stopping the use of military-style weapons in the public realm, mandating the safe storage of guns, and addressing the loophole in the gun background check system which does not take into account restraining orders for abusive partners. The initial public account of the shooting incident in Enoch City, Utah came from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. It was published on The White House’s website.
