LEBANON- We all have seen a boxing match or two in our lifetimes, the people who do this for a living tend to be people we feel some sort of respect for or maybe what we feel is fear? Whatever the feeling may be, we know we can’t deny we have experience some sort of admiration for these people. Latesha Mohl is a young woman in her early/mid twenties that decided to become a professional fighter. If you have not heard about her, today you will. Lateesha was not always involved in martial arts, her first love in regards to sports was softball. Leading up to her time to decide if she was going to college or not, she obtained a scholarship to play softball but she denied it and instead she decided to stay in shape and that is when she picked up boxing as her hobby.
At the beginning she practiced 2-3 times a week, and during her first months of practice she learned so quickly that she decided she was ready to partake on her first MMA Fight, which she ended up winning. After that, she wanted to explore other forms of martial arts like Kickboxing and Muay Thai. After having 3 amateur boxing matches and speaking with her coach Claudie Kenion from Capital Punishment Boxing Club she decided to launch her professional boxing career. The real test for Lateesha is happening on Dec 11th when her pro debut will be happening alongside a lineup of professional fighters in the region.
Latesha in a MMA fight
In Lateesha’s opinion martial arts are becoming a more common hobby among women “I’d say jiujitsu has seen the biggest growth for women. Martial arts is a beneficial way for women to not only get healthy and grow stronger mentally and physically, but it’s way for us to bond together. A lot of us turned to martial arts to help cope with anxiety, depression, domestic abuse, etc. I think every woman should try some sort of martial arts training, even if it’s just for fun. It’s extremely empowering to see other women starting to come out and join martial arts.” Lateesha said. Martial arts for women has been a way to learn how to defend themselves against aggressors. According to different martial arts blogs and websites, the best martial art for women are Krav Maga and Jiu Jitsu. Krav Maga is an Israeli form of fighting that teaches the individuals how to fight in life threatening situations. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is another popular form of martial arts among women because it teaches them how to grapple and user their bodies against their potential aggressor. Next time you see Lateesha remember that women do have the power to defend themselves and messing around with someone like her would not be a good idea.
