Meet Macklemore’s newest A&R: his 6-year-old daughter Sloane Ava Simone.
On Tuesday, the “Thrift Shop” rapper shared a silly video on Instagram in anticipation of his new single “Next Year,” which comes out Friday. The video stars his his 6-year-old daughter Sloane as she critiques her dad’s new track and offers him some pointers to take it to the next level.
“I use to think I was my own worst critic…Then I had kids,” Macklemore’s Instagram caption reads.
In the video, Sloane intently listens to the first few seconds of “Next Year” through a pair of white headphones before stopping to take a sip of hot chocolate and hilariously admitting, “Not your best but I still love ya.”
She also suggested some collaborators: “Do you know Camila Cabello?” “Did you ask Taylor Swift to get on this song?” “Adele wasn’t feeling this?”
Sloane’s attention to detail as a critic is superb when she asks, “Did Ryan produce this? He’s extra,” referring to Macklemore’s longtime collaborator, Ryan Lewis, who did, in fact, produce the track.
The video concludes with one final and very telling statement: “I think it’s really good.”
“Next Year” is the rapper’s first official release of the year, it will also be accompanied by a music video, which Macklemore teased in an Insatgram photo of his bloody and bruised face on a stretcher. The track features new alternative artist, Windser.
