Lebanon, Pa- It has been said, “first me, then and then me”, but how do we consider this phrase? do we really pay attention to our self? Or do we simply use these words to increase our ego and show people that I am as they want me to be and that if I help myself in things, I am wrong?
Since ancient times, mental health has been considered to address psychological disorders, obviously in different ways and different definitions according to Greek philosophers, such as Aristotle and Plato, who considered that mental health was nothing more than an ethical and divine part, where they could classify as prophetic, ritual, and erotic and despite that, Hippocrates, another recognized philosopher, created a humoral theory which deduced that our sensations and psychological disorders originated from causes natural. Many others believed that the problems caused by this disease were caused by some evil spirit, where most of them came to have this ideology, leading them to create methods and rituals to end mental health issues.
In other words psychological problems caused by mental health issues , they have always been, only now we see them more common because people make them notice thanks to the internet and social networks. However, at present it has been a subject of much talk and also silence. Since due to lack of help, lack of expression, communication, discrimination, bullying, loneliness and other social problems associated with mental health issues, various events occur where it ends in suicide.
When it concerns mental health diseases the ones I am referring to are, depression, which is one of the most mentioned and treated disorders today in children and young people. Others are Anxiety ,insomnia, bipolarity , schizophrenia , among others . Many of these are responsible for our mental health deteriorating if we do not seek help in time. A large part of people do not seek help, because they consider that these problems are for people who are “crazy” not going to therapy, looking for their own solution, which leads them to isolate themselves and be silent. Where that silence becomes our internal enemy, because they only listen to themselves and the mind is blocked by millions of negative thoughts. Many of them are silent because of fear of being judged and expecting cliché words like “That’s what he or she does to get attention”.
Now, many people do not know how to identify a mental health problem, and they ignore it believing that it is one more situation, where it becomes a routine. The WHO also considers Mental, neurological and substance use disorders account for 10% of the global burden of morbidity and mortality and 30% of fatal diseases. About 1 in 5 children and adolescents is diagnosed with a mental disorder. Depression is one of the main disorders that affects the world population, being one of the most important causes of disability. At least one person commits suicide in the world approximately every 40 seconds. People with serious mental disorders die 10 to 20 years earlier than the general population. Finally, people who are suffering from mental health symptoms are recommended to maintain a positive attitude in situations, practice gratitude , being grateful for the things we have , practicing some exercise , having communication with close people . If we do all this and still do not improve, we recommend going to a professional to help us for some treatment. We should not self-medicate or use all the help of the internet. Remembering that mental health is not just “being well” but not seeking help in time. Always memorize this “healthy mind healthy body”
