Morgan Wallen will soon return to the stage for his first official concert since his headlining show at the Ryman Auditorium on Jan. 12, 2021, to celebrate the release of his project Dangerous: The Double Album.
Wallen, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., will host a charity concert on Sept. 8 at Nashville venue Marathon Music Works to support flood survivors in Humphreys County, Tenn., and surrounding areas.
Billed as Morgan Wallen & Friends, the event is broken into two rounds of acoustic sets. Joining Wallen for the sets are Dierks Bentley, Cole Swindell, HARDY, Lainey Wilson, Josh Thompson, Ernest, Ben Burgess, Jared Mullins and Lathan Warlick.
Wallen announced the show via a social media post on Thursday evening (Sept. 2), saying, “I’ve been touched and heartbroken by the stories I’ve heard from the recent flooding and its impact in Middle Tennessee. Wanted to do my part to help. Proud that this is my first official show in such a long time. Hope you guys can make it on such short notice.”
The event has partnered with The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund. Grants from the fund will go to nonprofits supporting relief and restoration in Middle Tennessee areas impacted by the storms and floods.
Severe flooding hit Waverly, Tenn., and surrounding counties in August, leaving at least 20 people dead and numerous homes destroyed. Waverly, Tenn., is located approximately 70 miles west of Nashville.
The concert will also mark Wallen’s first official show since his music was temporarily removed from country radio stations and from prominent streaming playlists in February after a video surfaced of Wallen making a racial slur. He was also temporarily suspended from his label Big Loud’s artist roster and dropped by his booking agency, WME.
Wallen has made several surprise appearances over the past months, including a stint at Luke Bryan’s headlining concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena in July, and an appearance at popular Nashville music event Whiskey Jam to collaborate with Ernest. In May, Wallen performed a couple of songs at Kid Rock’s Nashville bar. In July, Wallen also gave his first interview since the incident, speaking with Good Morning America’s Michael Strahan.
Wallen made his official return to country radio in August with his single “Sand in My Boots.” The song currently sits at No. 32 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.
