We all know that Netflix has provided some ‘specials’ in recent times where the show is being streamed live, and in some cases experienced difficulties, like in the live streaming of the Love Is Blind show where they essentially left millions of people waiting to see the drama while it was happening with real time reactions.
The streaming giant recently shared in their Q3 earnings that they are in the sports business, but not looking to put more focus on their live streaming capabilities.
“We are in the sports business, but we’re in the part that we bring the most value to, which is the drama of sport,” Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said Wednesday during the company’s third quarter earnings chat.
Recently the company launched the docuseries Beckham, showcasing the life of the sports legend David Beckham. Netflix is known for focusing in the drama aspect of the sports and players they choose to showcase rather than providing live streaming opportunities for users to consume.
This statement came up a day after Netflix announced that it was going to live stream the Netflix Cup, a nine-hole tournament showcasing stars from their Drive to Survive and Full Swing shows.
We have yet to see what Netflix will do next given that they are investing more and more in live streaming events that are attracting millions of users.
