Lebanon, Pa- Have you heard of the Lebanon Bicycle Recycle? If not, now you are about to learn about this new initiative in Lebanon County. The goal behind the coalition is to build the usage, repairs and recycling of bicycles in the community. The program is not new, it has been operating in Lebanon County since October of 2021. The local initiative has been doing bicycle donation nights and mechanics training. “We want to put bikes in the hands of our youth. We plan to visit local parks, schools, libraries and events with tools to help with bike repairs and opportunities to earn a bike through volunteer hours.” said Laurie Crawford , project manager of REACH, in the press release statement.
The project has been funded by various of the Penn State organizations and private donors who want to see the community thrive. One of the donations to the initiative was a trailer where they will be able to host pop-up collection and training events in the community. According to the press release, there have been about 40 bikes that have been already donated and training sessions have taken place to teach volunteers for when they are teaching community members on how to repair a bike and provide it with proper maintenance.
” Lebanon Bicycle Recycle is a place to recycle old bikes, learn how to fix a bike and trade in or earn a bike. An open house will be held on March 19 at 12:30 pm, with a 1:00 pm ribbon cutting, at the Lebanon Bicycle Recycle workshop, located at 53 Chestnut Street in Lebanon” said the press release.
