Olivia Rodrigo adds to an already star-studded list of friends in the music industry, discussing her budding friendship with BLACKPINK’s Rosé in a new interview.
Fans of the popular K-pop group might recall the pair’s attention-grabbing Instagram selfie from last month’s 2021 Met Gala, where the two posed alongside Talia Ryder, the star of Rodrigo’s “deja vu” music video. Rodrigo shared more details about the events of that night with Rosé to Teen Vogue’s P. Claire Dodson, which didn’t appear in the final version of the magazine feature, but a transcript of the anecdote was posted on the writer’s Twitter account.
“She’s the best,” Rodrigo said of spending time with Rosé, according to the tweeted transcript. “We’d hung out before, and she’s actually the sweetest angel alive. I was so happy I was sitting next to her because I was so nervous, and when I sat down it was like, oh my God I have a friend here. She’s absolutely the best, couldn’t sing her praises enough. She’s so talented. Nicest person in the world too.”
Last month at the Met, Rodrigo and Rosé arrived separately to the festivities donning Yves Saint Laurent pieces. Rodrigo wore an all-black, punk-inspired bodysuit, seemingly inspired by the themes of her debut record Sour, while Rosé made Met history alongside CL as the first K-pop artists to walk the gala’s red carpet.
The pair’s growing relationship didn’t just start at the 2021 Met Gala: They were also spotted out at dinner back in July with stylist Devon Carlson and director Petra Collins, both frequent collaborators of Rodrigo’s. The fact that both artists are signed to Interscope Records sparked rumors of a possible collaboration.
Rodrigo spoke at length with Teen Vogue about many important topics related to her young career, particularly the criticism she has faced for retroactively crediting Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Joshua Farro on her Hot 100 No. 1 “good 4 u” months after its release.
