Olivia Rodrigo took the punk rock aesthetic from her debut album Sour straight to the 2021 Met Gala on Monday evening (Sept. 13) with her daring-yet-chic outfit.
The”Good 4 U” pop superstar wore a sheer black lace bodysuit with an off-the-shoulder ruffle cut designed by Yves Saint Laurent.
“I personally love American punk music, and I think Saint Laurent does a really good job of making punk rock feminine. So that’s what I was going for tonight,” she told Vogue livestream host Keke Palmer.
Fellow artist Billie Eilish is one of the co-chairs for the evening, alongside Timothée Chalamet, Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka. The annual fashion event was postponed indefinitely in 2020, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but the gala is back this year with the theme of “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”
Rihanna will host the event’s official afterparty, teaming with hospitality giant Richie Akiva to throw the Met Ball’s private post-gala bash. Rihanna shared the news on her Instagram Story, joking to her followers, “If you planning a MET Ball after party…don’t.”
