Today marks two centuries of the relationship between the United States and Mexico. We, who are the most near neighbors and companions, possess a code of morals that is the foundation of our power. Our commitment to liberty, democracy, and the supremacy of the law is everlasting. We have an increasingly closer financial and safety relationship, making North America the world’s most energetic and vibrant area. This 200th anniversary is especially special because it corresponds with the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe – an occasion that has enormous spiritual and cultural importance for numerous Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. On this day, we commemorate the bonds that join us together as a nation and recognize the diverse contributions of Mexican-Americans to the United States throughout history. Together, Mexico and the United States have proven that collaboration leads to improvement and safety for all. The fates of us all are inextricably linked. As we move into the next hundred years of our partnership, we should focus on respecting and cherishing our mutual objectives. Nothing should be out of reach if we continue to work together.
