For a second time, The Pretty Reckless boasts an album with three No. 1s on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.
“Only Love Can Save Me Now,” featuring Matt Cameron and Kim Thayil, rises 2-1 on the survey dated Sept. 25 to become the Taylor Momsen-led rockers’ seventh No. 1 and third from their latest album, Death by Rock and Roll.
The Pretty Reckless snagged three No. 1s from an album once before: In 2014-15, “Heaven Knows,” “Messed Up World” and “Follow Me Down” each crowned the tally, all from the group’s 2014 LP, Going to Hell. Prior to Death by Rock and Roll’s latest leader, the title track reigned in August 2020, followed by “And So It Went,” featuring Tom Morello, this April and May.
With seven overall rulers (the other, “Take Me Down,” led in 2016), The Pretty Reckless extends its record for the most No. 1s by a woman-led act over the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart’s 40-year history.
“Now” also grants Cameron and Thayil their first No. 1s as individually billed soloists on Mainstream Rock Airplay, although both have multiple rulers during their time in Pearl Jam (Cameron) and Soundgarden (Cameron and Thayil).
Concurrently, “Now” jumps 9-6 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay list with 3.2 million audience impressions, up 3%, according to MRC Data. It ties the band’s best rank on the tally, equaling “Death by Rock and Roll” last year.
“Now” also breaks into the top 10 of the streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Hot Hard Rock Songs chart (which began in 2020), for the first time (12-10), with 160,000 U.S. streams in addition to its airplay.
Death by Rock and Roll debuted at No. 2 on the Hard Rock Albums chart dated Feb. 27 and has earned 66,000 equivalent album units to date.
