Another Met Gala is in the books. After the fashion event was canceled last year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, celebrities, musicians and Hollywood stars alike flocked to New York City on Monday night (Sept. 13) to deliver an array of show-stopping looks.
The theme for this year’s gala was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which meant the celebrity guests — as well as their designers — had to come up with unique takes on their meaning of Americana culture and iconography.
Lil Nas X — known for turning heads — showed up to this year’s gala in not one look, but three gold ensembles that he revealed one by one as he ascended the gala carpet. The first layer consisted of a floor length cape fit for royalty, which he later removed to showcase a solid gold suit of armor. By the time Lil Nas reached the top of the carpet, he had shed his golden armor for a bedazzled black and gold catsuit fit for dancing the night away.
Billie Eilish, one of the four co-chairs for the event, dazzled in a “holiday Barbie”-inspired look. She wore an ethereal nude chiffon ballgown that called back to old Hollywood starlets Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly. Olivia Rodrigo also looked stunning, and channeled the golden era of punk music with a black lace catsuit adorned in feathers.
