Casting Notice
Walnut Street Theatre is casting local Philadelphia-based Spanish speaking singers and dancers for its spring 2022 production of “ON YOUR FEET! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan.” Performers of ALL Latinx backgrounds encouraged to apply. Alex Sanchez, whose staging has been seen Off-Broadway, nationally and internationally, will be directing and choreographing the production.
This production will be a joint co-production between two theatres – Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach, Florida, and Walnut Street Theatre here in Philadelphia. Some of the cast will do both productions and some of the cast will do only Philadelphia based on the roles. First rehearsal is scheduled for February 15, 2022, and the production will run through May 29th, 2022. For performers only in the Philadelphia portion, those dates to be available are April 6, 2022 through May 29, 2022.
Seeking union and non-union singer/dancers, and kids, for the following roles:
GLORIA- Female. 20s-30s. Cuban. Starts off shy, but slowly opens up as the show progresses. Becomes an icon. Sharp sense of humor. Strong Actress with star quality. Must speak fluent Spanish, sing pop, and move well.
EMILIO– Male. 30-40s. Cuban. Confident, Handsome, Loyal, Leading man with character. Sometimes stumbles over his English as well as his emotions. Must speak fluent Spanish and sing well.
GLORIA FAJARDO – Female. 50s-60s. Cuban. Gloria’s brassy, strong-willed mother. Latin matriarch. Biting humor. Must speak fluent Spanish and sing well.
CONSUELO- Female. 60s-70s. Cuban. Gloria’ Grandmother. Like a Cuban stage mother. Sometimes an apparition. Wise, loving, and warm. Always pushing Gloria to achieve her dreams. Must speak fluent Spanish and be able to carry a tune.
ENSEMBLE- A diverse group of strong dancers and pop singers that will play multiple roles throughout the show.
EXTRAS – Background singer dancers (for the Philadelphia run only) who are non-speaking on stage in background scenes throughout the show.
UNDERSTUDIES – Singer dancers (for the Philadelphia run only) who are not in the show every night, but are on call to understudy a specific role in case of emergency.
YOUNG EMILIO/NAYIB – Male. Ages 8-12. Doubles as Emilio Estefan as a boy, as well as Gloria Estefan’s son. Must be a strong dancer and speak Spanish. Does not need to sing.
LITTLE GLORIA- Female. Ages 10-12. Cuban. Innocent, smart, and self-reliant. A little sad, but always hopeful. Must speak Spanish and sing well.
As a condition of employment, we are only looking to see actors that have been or will be fully vaccinated by the first rehearsal date in order to comply with the theatre’s and our union’s safety plans.
